The scratch filesystem

The scratch filesystem is based on HPE Cray ClusterStor E1000 storage with solely flash-based SSUs (Scalable Storage Units). In its eight SSUs there are eight OSSes (Object Storage Servers) that together serve eight OSTs (Object Storage Targets). Each OST has 12 NVMe SSDs, and so the eight OSTs together provide a total of 403TiB usable capacity for scratch.

Warning

It is important for users to familiarize themselves with the characteristics of both the filesystem and their applications and adjust IO in their workflows accordingly. (See Performance considerations)
